Buffalo Sabres March, 2003

As with the logo, it is always best to try and find a compromise between the past and the present, so as not to alienate many fans of either look. In many of my designs, I tried to find that compromise between jersey layouts. The Red and Black jerseys have offered a jersey layout very different from anything currently in the NHL, and I feel it would be a shame to jump out of the spotlight that we have created with that new look, and back into a rut of conformity. For most of these concepts, I believe the best way to utilize the gold areas of the jersey, would be to use a "sheen" material, very similar to what the Wasington Capitals currently use for their copper areas.

As for the Third Jersey, there is a current trend of using very bold, almost ugly colors as the Alternate (Islanders, Predators, Bruins, and Philadelphia) and I feel I would be remiss not to offer a similar option. Although, I prefer the concept of a "retro" jersey with lacing around the neck, as an homage to the original blue and gold.

To retain some presence of the current logo, it is a possibility to utilize the buffalo head as a shoulder patch. Another option would be to mimic what is currently there, with a 'B' with a sword through, but redone in a new style. There are still many options of what can be utilized as a shoulder patch, and I feel that can be narrowed down in a later stage.
