| Buffalo Sabres | March, 2003 |
The original logo offered a great symbol for a team named the Buffalo Sabres for many reasons. The most obvious of which is the symbolic nature of the name being represented, on top is a leaping Buffalo, while directly below are the Sabres. The new Buffalo head logo was a completely new concept, and while visually appealing, the team name was never the Buffalo Buffaloes. The sabres having been totally lost in the new logo, many fans felt this was an odd direction for the team to take. Simply from an aesthetic standpoint, the original logo offered symmetry and balance, all encompassed in a circle. In trying to revamp the Buffalo Sabres image, I felt it was best to retain the two strongest advantages of the original logo, the symmetry and the symbolistic nature. For this reason, I believe concept 04 offers the best mix of retaining what the logo once was, while offering a brand new style and modern feel.
