As with the logo, it is always best to try and find a compromise between the past and the present, so as not to alienate fans of either look. Basically I tried to capture a look which is identical to the old blue and gold, and at a glance, I believe this accomplishes that. However, there are aesthetic updates which make the whole look a bit more contemporary, without being trendy.
For the third Jersey, I wanted to do an imagining of the team, as if they were around in the 40s & 50s. Hockey has been present in Buffalo for a long time, and I wanted to give the team a look that would serve as a fantasy throwback. As I noted in the logos section, the secondary B mark already serves as an homage to the Buffalo Bisons (the hockey club that existed prior to our current professional team, and basically made it possible for their existance in Buffalo), by utilizing the same script that was used in their logo. For one of the third jerseys, I decided to take that idea even further, and create a more literal rendition of a mixture of the past and the present.
My previous incarnation of a 'gold' third jersey received an extremely polarized response. People either loved it or hated it. Which I believe will be the case any time such a bold color is used. I decided to include a gold third jersey here, as many color choices in the era I was looking for were very bold. If we were to use blue as the primary color for the third jersey, we would need to distance it visually from the standard, thus the unique and never before seen striping patterns incorporating white on the blue uniforms.
As with the logos section, this section will most likely be changing and growing as time goes on, so keep checking back for updates.
